About

Hi! I'm an architect, environmental designer and researcher passionate about creating future-proof and resilient built environments for a changing climate, bridging the gap between design and performance.

I work as a Postdoc Researcher at the Institute of Data Science and Artificial Intelligence (DATAI) at the University of Navarra (UNAV) in Spain, where I collaborate with Prof. Dr. Jesús Lopez Fidalgo on cutting-edge research projects applied to the built environment linked to computational design of experiments and AI.

I have a Ph.D. in Environmental and Technological Design in Architecture from the same university, where I studied how form-related passive design strategies can help reduce overheating risk and promote socio-environmental performance in warm tropical climates. During my Ph.D., I was fortunate to be advised by Prof. Dr. Ana Sánchez-Ostiz and Prof. Dr. Aurora Monge from UNAV and Prof. Dr. Nirmal Kishnani from the National University of Singapore (NUS). As part of my Ph.D., I spent some time at NUS, where I learned from innovative and sustainable architectural projects by WOHA Architects in Singapore. I also conducted fieldwork in Honduras, where I monitored indoor temperature and surveyed thermal comfort in residential buildings with/without passive cooling strategies.

My research interests include:
  • passive cooling and low-energy design strategies to increase thermal comfort and energy efficiency, and to adapt to climate change effects;
  • computational design and modelling, energy simulation, thermal comfort simulation, daylight simulations.
  • design of experiments (DoE), statistical modelling and AI (e.g. machine learning, deep learning, natural language processing) for optimisation/prediction applied to the built environment;
  • building performance evaluation, low-carbon retrofitting and climate change adaptation of buildings and neighbourhoods;
  • socio-environmental impacts of built environments on people and nature (e.g. biophilic design).
Before pursuing my master's and PhD studies and postdoc position in Spain, I gained professional experience as an architect at an NGO in Honduras called Tegucigalpa's Ecological Foundation (FET). During my time there, I contributed to various projects, including the redesign of the "Monumento de la Paz" Plaza in the "Cerro Juana Lainez" Park. I obtained my bachelor's degree in Architecture from the Catholic University of Honduras (UNICAH) in 2014. I am originally from Tegucigalpa, Honduras, the capital city of a beautiful and tropical Central American country.
